ROWE CONTAINERS NOW WITH RECYCLED PLASTIC REUSABLE MATERIALS
“Our numerous sustainability projects are now in their fourth year,” says ROWE General Manager DR. Alexandra Kohlmann.
“With our big brand relaunch last March (www.rowe-relaunch.com), we also converted a part of our container production that had not been announced yet. Since the introduction of the new colours, it includes recycled plastics, called recyclates.”
What exactly are recyclates? A recyclate is a product from a recycling process. In other words, it is a product that consists of objects and materials that have gone through the recycling process and primarily originate from post consumer waste. In modern processing facilities these objects are sorted, crushed, washed and melted in granule form. This granulated material is called recyclate.
This granulate is added in the production of a new ROWE container from subsidiary PALBO GmbH, thereby reducing the proportion of new material. “This allows us to be even more sustainable and to show our customers that we are mindful of where our goods come from and how to process them in the most eco-friendly manner - even in upstream and downstream processes. Because the ROWE brand is more than just the name of a German lubricant manufacturer. It has stood for quality and innovation from the start.”
Overall 12 tonnes of recyclate have already been processed. This corresponds, for example, to an average quantity of 3.5 million standard household yoghurt containers. Reversely, this means there is at least 20% recyclate in every single small container. ROWE is thereby one step ahead of the industry, demonstrating that environmental and resource protection can also be implemented in the lubricant sector.
Although the purchase of recyclate is significantly more expensive than the production of containers from 100% new material, sustainability and environmental protection have been manifesting in ROWE’s management for years now.
“We have also come up with something for the communication and presentation of our customers and end users,” Kohlmann continues. “From now on, there is an embossed seal on every single container that shows that this canister comes from our sustainable production chain and has been produced with 20% recyclate.”
This is what this means for end users: With each product purchase they are not just buying the highest quality lubricant from Germany, they are also contributing to resource conservation and the recycling of plastic waste thanks to a CO2 compensated product – all at the same price as usual.”
